As far as PUC is concerned, it is not required for a newly purchased vehicle upto a period of one year as per the Section 115 subsection 7 of CMV Rules 1989 otherwise it is mandatory as per CMV Rules 115(1) for every vehicle, its possession does not prevents a police officer or the person authorized in this behalf by the state government from directing the driver of the vehicle to get the emission levels checked at the authorized testing station and to produce the certificate to the subject officer. The cost of PUC testing is mere Rs. 35 but the fine is Rs. 500 so it is logical to obtain a PUC.
